Nature & Wildlife – Typical Summer vacation – 14 Days 13Nights

14 Days / 13 Nights

Quick look

The terrain of Sri Lanka and the patterns of the monsoons contribute to generate diverse climatic zones; as a result of these climatic variations, Sri Lanka claims for immense flora and fauna. Sri Lanka is a tiny tropical island on the Southern point of India with numerous varied climates.

The tropical paradise of Sri Lanka holds the title of “biodiversity hotspot”; just 36 regions on the entire planet meet the criteria for inclusion in this category, and visitors who are interested in seeing animals will find that Sri Lanka is the second-best destination after Africa in this regard. The wild “big four” of Sri Lanka include elephants, leopards, sloth bears, and blue whales; it is possible to observe all of these animals in a single day’s excursion. In addition to this, the bird life of Sri Lanka is exceptionally diverse for its size, with 524 species documented, of which around 250 are migrants and 34 are indigenous to Sri Lanka.

This journey will take you to five national parks, each of which is distinct and special: Pigion Island is a marine national park where you can go snorkeling. Wilpattu is well-known for its leopards. Minneriya or Kaudulla is well-known for its world-renowned elephant gathering. Wilpattu is famed for its leopards. A boat safari on Inginiagala Lake in Gal-Oya National Park, where you will be able to witness amazing bird life, is another unique experience that can be had in Galoya National Park, which is a national park that attracts less visitors than other national parks in the country.

And throughout your time at the Horathapola Estate, the Habarana rural village nature walk, and the Gal-Oya Kiriporuwa lake excursions, you will have the opportunity to learn about the local culture as well as the environment.

Makandura

One of our representatives will meet you at Bandaranaike International Airport and transfer you to your accommodation.

Drive: 30km, approximately 01 hour’s drive.

Day - 02
Anuradhapura

Today, after breakfast, you are going to explore the Royal Botanical Garden with your chauffeur guide, and then you will drive to Pasikuda, your next location, and spend the afternoon at leisure.

Drive: 210km, approximately 05 hour’s drive.

Pasikudah or Pasikuda – old Tamil translation “Green- Algae-Bay” – is a seaside tourist town in Batticaloa District, Sri Lanka, 35 kilometres North-west of Batticaloa. Historically, a small Tamil hamlet along the Kalkudah River. Pasikuda suffered massive devastation as a result of the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami and the Sri Lankan Civil War. Pasikudah has one of the world’s longest stretches of shallow reef coastline. People walk for kilometres into the sea because the water is only a few feet deep and the current is weak in comparison to the rest of Sri Lanka’s coasts.

Day - 03
Anuradhapura

You are in for a long day today as you are scheduled to participate in a full-day safari in Wilpattu National Park. During your time on the safari, you will be accompanied by your chauffeur guide.

Full Day game drive at Wilpattu National Park.

In the north-eastern part of Sri Lanka, Wilpattu National Park is both the largest and most picturesque of the country’s national parks. The altitudes inside the park range from 0 to 152 meters above mean sea level. The park covers an area of 1,317 km2 . The name Wil-Pattu originates from the Tamil word “Villu, ” which may be translated as “Lakes.” It is believed that the park contains around 106 natural water basins that are ringed with sand. Between the months of December 1988 and March 16, 2003, the national park was off-limits due to safety concerns connected to the Sri Lankan Civil War. The park is becoming more well-known among visitors for its leopard sightings.

Day - 04
Sigiriya

Today, after a relaxing breakfast, you will make your way to Sigiriya, then in the afternoon, you and your chauffeur guide will visit either Minneriya or Kaudulla National park.

Afternoon Game Drive – Elephants Gathering at Minneriya National Park

The gathering of elephants is a phenomenon that is considered to be one of the natural wonders of the world and may be witnessed in Sri Lanka. During the gathering season, visitors will get the opportunity to see anything from one hundred to three hundred elephants in a single heard, making it the greatest gathering of Asian elephants in the world.

During the dry months, from July to October, the tank acts as a’migration’ path for these enormous beasts from many of the neighboring locations as they seek water and new grass, which has all dried up elsewhere. This “migration” path serves as a safe haven for them during the dry months. They congregate in herds of up to 300 individuals at this time, marking the beginning of the greatest gathering of Asian Elephants ever seen.

Day - 05
Sigiriya

After breakfast, you will accompany your chauffeur guide for a village tour, and in the afternoon, you will have the option to either stay in the hotel or either visit Sigiriya Ancient Heritage site (which is a UNSECO world heritage site) or Dambulla Cave Temple (which is also a UNSECO world heritage site).

Village Tour

When you take a trip through a rural village, you will not only be able to appreciate the natural beauty of the area, but also the culture and way of life of the locals. Your tour of the village started out with either a trip in a bolock cart or a ride on a hand tractor. After that, you took a catamaran boat to a hut in the middle of the village, where you were allowed to prepare food alongside the ladies of the village and eat what they had prepared. After that, a Tuk-Tuk will bring you back to the place where the tour began.

Day - 06
Trincomale

After a leisurely breakfast, you will depart this morning for Trincomalee, located on the north-eastern shore of the island. Because of the tragic conflict in Sri Lanka, the north- eastern portion of the island remained inaccessible to tourists for a good number of years. Because of the area’s large Tamil population, it has its own distinct culture, and for the better part of the last three decades, it has been cut off from the rest of the island. As an outcome of this, the north-eastern part of Sri Lanka provides an experience that is strikingly different from that of the rest of the country. Because June through August is Trincomalee’s busiest season for tourism, prices for lodging and other types of accommodations may be higher than usual during this time.

In the late afternoon, you will go on a boat safari in the lagoon with your chauffeur guide. Additional information about the region and its history will be given to you from your chauffeur guide, who will also be able to answer any questions you may have.

Drive: 100km, approximately 02 hour’s and 30 minute’s drive.

Lagoon Boat Safari – Trincomalee

Mangroves are extraordinary plants that are able to prosper in salty or brackish water. One of the most important locations for the growth of mangroves is Trincomalee. The Trincomalee boat tour navigates through this one-of-a-kind mangrove forest on its way to and from the city. If you’re very fortunate, you could look across the river and see hundreds of cows swimming over it.

Day - 07
Trincomalee

Nilavali in Trincomalee is one of the most well-known spots in the area for snorkeling. In the morning, you and your chauffeur guide will make your way to Pigeon Island in order to participate in a snorkeling adventure. Leisure afternoon.

Snorkelling at Pigeon Island Marine National Park

It takes around twenty minutes by boat from the main island sea show to reach the marine national park that is located on Pigeon Island, which is located on the East coast. At a distance of one kilometer from the diving site on Pigeon Island, visitors may observe stunning coral formations, eels, small schools of various fish, and lovely boxfish.

Day - 08
Pasikuda

Following breakfast, you will be transferred to your destination in Pasikuda. Your route will take you past rice fields and farms along the coast, where you’ll have the opportunity to observe a diverse range of ecosystems. Afternoon relaxation at hotel.

Drive: 110km, approximately 03 hour’s drive.

Pasikudah, often spelled Pasikuda, is a beach resort town located 35 kilometers to the northwest of Batticaloa in the Batticaloa District of Sri Lanka. The name Pasikuda translates to “Green-Algae-Bay” in Tamil. In the past, this location was a sleepy Tamil village located beside the Kalkudah River. Both the Indian Ocean Tsunami of 2004 and the Sri Lankan Civil War were responsible for the widespread destruction that occurred in Pasikuda.

One of the longest pieces of coastline that is protected by shallow reefs may be found in Pasikudah. Because the water is only a few feet deep and the current is weak in comparison to the rest of Sri Lanka’s coasts, people walk for kilometers into the sea.

Day - 09
Pasikuda

Today, you will have the opportunity to choose whether you would want to spend your free time at the beach or at the hotel pool.

Day - 10
Gal-Oya

Today, you and your chauffeur guide will leave Pasikuda for Gal-Oya. The Gal-Oya is a river in south-east Sri Lanka that stretches for 67 miles (108 kilometers). It is the sixteenth longest river in Sri Lanka. After the river was dammed in 1948 as part of the Gal-Oya plan, the population of Gal-Oya increased. The Gal Oya project resulted in the formation of the 100,000-acre Gal Oya basin. We presently cultivate paddy, chillies, sugarcane, and potatoes in this area.

Bears, leopards, and elephants are just some of the animals that call the adjacent Gal-Oya National Park home. Located in the Gal-Oya National Park, Sennayake Samudaraya (Inginiyagala Lake) is one of the biggest lakes in Sri Lanka

Drive: 100km, approximately 02 hour’s and 30 minute’s drive.

Gal-Oya National Park – Nilgala Jeep Safari

Because of the civil war, Gal-Oya National Park was closed to tourists for almost to thirty years, and to this day, neither locals nor visitors from other countries find any use for it as a tourist destination. This is due to the fact that Gal Oya National Park is one of Sri Lanka’s natural beauties that is relatively unknown. It has quietly persisted for much of its existence apart from the influence of man. It acts as a reminder of the way things used to be in the past. We think that it is the perfect place to go hiking in the unspoiled wilderness. Within the park you can find elephants, wild boars, four different kinds of deer, jackals, sloth bears, marsh mugger crocodiles, and a variety of rare exotic birds. All of these animals live together in harmony. It has an intricate ecosystem that is just waiting to be uncovered.

Day - 11
Gal-Oya

You will depart from the hotel this morning at around 5:30 a.m. to go on a boat safari on Inginiyagala lake. There is a reserve known as Inginiyagala located within the Gal-Oya National Park.

Gal-Oya > Inginiyagala Lake > Hotel (Gal-Oya) Drive: 35km, approximately 01 hour drive. (One way)

After the boat safari, you may rest at the hotel and enjoy the pool, or in the late afternoon, you can take a walk to the adjacent “Kiriporuwa” lake with a naturalist. Both of these options are great ways to spend your time.

Several species of birds, both those that live on Sri Lanka year-round and those that fly in for the winter, can be seen from the boat. Elephants can often be seen swimming from the mainland to the islands or from one island to another; crocodiles in the shallows are also possible.

Kiriporuwa Lake Visit

This afternoon, you will be exploring the region with a naturalist who is well familiar with it. To get to Kiriporuwa Lake, the best place to see birds in the region, you and your naturalist may take a stroll through the hamlet.

Day - 12
Kandy

You will be accompanied on the journey to Kandy by your chauffeur guide. This drive takes you through rice paddies and rural areas, offering it a great opportunity to see a variety of different animals. When you get there, you won’t have to worry about anything else for the rest of the day.

Drive: 155km, approximately 04 hour’s drive

Day - 13
Negombo

You will go to Negombo today after departing from Kandy. You will get the opportunity to view a number of beautiful places, and your chauffeur guide will provide you with commentary on each one as you travel to Negombo.

Drive: 100km, approximately 03hour’s drive

Day - 14
Departure

After a leisurely breakfast on the final day of your Sri Lankan vacation, you will be driven to the airport in time for your return flight.
